[Situational Korean : Role-Play] Level 1 : How to Check In at a Hotel in Korea

In the last post, I introduced four useful sentences for hotel check-in.

Now, let’s use them in a role-play and see how the other person might respond.

When Checking In at a Hotel

Me: 안녕하세요, 체크인하려고요.
English: Hello, I’d like to check in.
Pronunciation: an-nya-seh-yo, check-in halla-go-yo

Staff: 어서오세요. 성함 한번 말씀 부탁드립니다.
English: Welcome. May I have your name, please?
Pronunciation: uh-suh-oh-seh-yo. sung-ham han-bun mal-sseum boo-tak-deu-rim-nee-da.

Me: David Kim입니다. 예약했어요.
English: I’m David Kim. I made a reservation.
Pronunciation: David Kim im-nee-da. yeahk-has-yo

Staff: 여권 부탁드립니다.
English: May I have your passport, please?
Pronunciation: yuh-kwon boo-tak-deu-rim-nee-da.

Me: 여기요.
English: Here you go.
Pronunciation: yuh-gee-yo.

Staff: 오늘부터 2박, 더블룸 맞으실까요?
English: You’ll be staying for two nights from today in a double room, is that correct?
Pronunciation: oh-neul-boo-tuh ee-bak, double room ma-jeu-shil-kka-yo?

Me: 네, 맞아요.
English: Yes, that’s right.
Pronunciation: neh, ma-ja-yo.

Staff: 여기 객실 카드키입니다. 602호이시고, 입실은 3시부터 가능하세요.
English: Here is your room key card. Your room is 602, and you can check in from 3 p.m.
Pronunciation: yuh-gee gaek-shil card-key im-nee-da. yook-baek-ee-ho-ee-shi-go, ip-shil-eun seh-shi-boo-tuh ga-neung-ha-seh-yo.

Me: 좀 맡길 수 있을까요?
English: Could I leave my luggage here for a while?
Pronunciation: jeem jom mcgill soo ee-sky-O?

Staff: 네, 그럼요. 여기에 놓고 가주시면 됩니다. 그럼 즐거운 여행 되십시오.
English: Yes, of course. You can leave it here. Have a wonderful trip.
Pronunciation: neh, guh-rum-yo. yuh-gee-eh no-ko ga-joo-shi-myun dwem-nee-da. guh-rum jeul-guh-oon yuh-haeng dweh-ship-shi-oh.


As I mentioned last time, this conversation will probably happen in English.

It is a hotel, after all. They will probably speak your language for you.
