[Situational Korean] Example Sentences with 여기, 거기, 저기, and 어디

Today, following the last post, I will show you some example sentences using 여기 (Yuh-gee), 거기 (Guh-gee), 저기 (Juh-gee), and 어디 (Uh-dee).

  • The most basic example is: “여기 어디예요?(uh-gee uh-dee-yeh-yo?)”

The full sentence is actually “여기가 어디예요?(uh-gee-ga uh-dee-yeh-yo?)”

But in Korea, particles are often dropped in everyday conversation.

Speaking without particles can sometimes sound more natural and more like a local Korean speaker.

You do not always need particles in everyday Korean.

Also, in Korean, you can often change the word order and still be understood.

For example, instead of saying:

“여기 홍대예요.(Yuh-gee Hong-deh-yeh-yo.)”

You can also say:

“홍대예요, 여기.(Hong-deh-yeh-yo, Yuh-gee.)”

So if the word order feels confusing, do not worry too much.

Try combining the words freely.

Koreans will still understand what you mean.

And maybe you might even sound a little more Korean. Haha.😁
