[Sentence Patterns] How to Say “Can I Get…?” in Korean: 주세요 (Ju-say-O)

Today, we are going to practice the “~주세요 (Ju-say-O)” pattern.

This one is very, very easy.

“~주세요 (Ju-say-O)” literally means something like “Give me ~.”

Of course, in English, “Give me” can sound a little rude or too direct.

But in Korean, “~주세요 (Ju-say-O)” is not rude.

It is a very normal and common expression.

Actually, “please” may be a better translation than “Give me.”

Of course, there are other ways to ask for something in Korean, similar to “Can I get ~?” in English.

For example, Korean has many expressions like “주시겠어요?”, “주실 수 있으실까요?”, “주실래요?”, and more.

But as I said, “주세요 (Ju-say-O)” is not rude in Korean.

So today, let’s learn this very basic and useful pattern : “~주세요 (Ju-say-O).”

I think “주세요 (Ju-say-O)” is one of the easiest Korean sentence patterns.

Why?

Because you do not need any particles, and the pronunciation is also quite easy.

Just put the thing you want before “주세요 (Ju-say-O),” and that is it!

Here is one more tip.

If you want to sound a little more natural, you can add “좀(johm)” before “주세요 (Ju-say-O).”

You can read “좀” like “johm.”

A small tip : say “John,” but at the very end, close your lips instead of making the “n” sound. Haha.

“좀” originally means something close to “a little” or “some.”

But in many everyday Korean requests, it is often added just to make the sentence sound softer and more natural.

It does not always need to be translated directly.

In that way, it can feel a little similar to how English speakers sometimes add “though” at the end of a sentence.

The meaning is not exactly the same, but both can slightly change the tone of the sentence.
