In Korea, people use scissors a lot when cutting food.
Korean food is very diverse, so Koreans tend to use whatever cooking tool is the most convenient for each ingredient or dish.
If you use a knife, you usually need a cutting board.
But if you use scissors, you do not need a cutting board.
You can simply hold the food and cut it quickly.
It is also easier to cut some foods into smaller or more delicate pieces.
If you go to a Korean BBQ restaurant, you will almost always see scissors on the table.

For people who are not used to this, cutting food with scissors may look a little strange or even unhygienic.
But in Korea, there are scissors made specifically for kitchen use.
Koreans would also find it strange if someone used regular office scissors in the kitchen.
Kitchen scissors look different from ordinary stationery scissors, and they are sold in a different section of the store.

You cannot usually find them in the stationery section.
You will find them in the kitchenware section.
So if you see scissors being used for food in Korea, do not worry too much.
They are not the same scissors used for paper or office work.
They are kitchen scissors!
