Today, let’s talk about the Hangang River.
The Hangang River is probably the most famous river in Korea, right?
The Hangang flows through Seoul, and there are many parks along the river.
When people think of Hangang Park, many of them probably think of Yeouido Hangang Park first.
But actually, there are more than ten Hangang parks in Seoul.
To be honest, when the weather is really nice, I usually do not go to Yeouido Hangang Park on weekends.
There are just too many people.
There are several Hangang parks in Seoul, including Gwangnaru, Gangseo, Nanji, Ttukseom, Mangwon, Banpo, Yanghwa, Yeouido, Ichon, Jamsil, and Jamwon Hangang Park.
So if you visit Korea, try searching for the Hangang park closest to your accommodation and visit at least once.
All Hangang parks are free to enter, and you can sit freely in the open park areas.
Korea is generally known as a very safe country, so it is usually okay to enjoy Hangang Park even after the sun goes down.
Of course, basic caution is always important when traveling anywhere, but many people in Korea enjoy walking, eating, and relaxing by the Hangang River at night too.
And here comes one of Korea’s most famous little cultures.
Even though Hangang Park is an outdoor space, you can still order food delivery there!
People usually order food through apps like Baemin (Baedal Minjok) or Coupang Eats.
Baemin supports English and Japanese, so you can use the app in English or Japanese.
However, there are some areas in Hangang parks where motorcycles cannot enter.
So when you order delivery, you need to choose your location very clearly.
If there is a convenience store near where you are sitting, it is usually better to set the delivery location near that convenience store.
It will make communication much easier.
If you order food to the middle of the park, the delivery driver may not be able to find you because there are so many people.
Then the driver may call you, and both of you might end up feeling confused and awkward.
In the worst case, you might not be able to receive your food.
So make sure to choose a clear meeting point, such as in front of a convenience store or near a restroom.
You may wonder:
“Then do I have to wait there the whole time after ordering?”
No, you do not have to.
In the app, you can usually check where the delivery driver is.
So after ordering, you can relax and enjoy your time by the Hangang River.
When you get a notification that the driver has picked up your food from the restaurant, you can slowly move to the meeting point.
But there is one important thing to remember.
Korea is a country of “ppalli-ppalli.”
“Ppalli-ppalli” means “quickly, quickly,” and it is often used to describe Korea’s fast-paced culture.
Koreans usually do not like making others wait.
So make sure to check the app from time to time, and try to arrive at the meeting point before the delivery driver gets there.
